Offering Audio Books is a way that we can engage children who might be hesitant to pick up an actual book. For some kids, picking up a book and looking at pages and pages of text can be daunting and intimidating, and not an attractive option in the slightest.  Audio Books is a way to get them excited about the whole ‘magic world of storytelling’, and to encourage reading.

When children are read to fluently and enthusiastically, not only is it enjoyable for them, but they also hear the correct pacing, intonations, and cadence of reading, how punctuation should sound, and how reading should sound. This can then all translate across to their own reading (independent and aloud).

We have 3 iPads available to students during lunchtime with a selection of book titles of varying lengths and reading levels to choose from. The Audio Books are also available to Teachers to use with their students during their scheduled Library class times if they choose to.

Students are able to book a 15 minute Audio Book session and enjoy listening to a story. Each month we release new titles. Some of our past and current titles include:

  • The Gruffalo – Julia Donaldson
  • Green Eggs and Ham – Dr Seuss
  • Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – Roald Dahl
  • Gangsta Granny – David Walliams
  • The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe – CS Lewis
  • Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone – JK Rowling
  • Storm Boy – Colin Thiele
  • Blueback – Tim Winton
  • The 117-Storey Treehouse – Andy Griffiths
  • The Cat in the Hat – Dr Seuss
  • Room on the Broom – Julia Donaldson

Where possible, we try to ensure that we also have the hard copy of any Audio Books available in the Library.
